Self-Conquest Is The Highest Victory

"Thou one man conquers a thousand men, a thousand times in battle, he who conquers himself is the greatest warrior."

One may conquer a thousand men in a thousand battles. But the person who conquers just one person, which is one’s own self, is the greatest conqueror.

Self conquest is greater than the conquest of others. The victory of one who conquers himself cannot be turned into defeat. He remains a self controlled individual who lives ever disciplined.

Such conquest cannot be turned into defeat either by a god, spirit, a Mara (devil) or a Brahma (creator).

'understanding' is better than any 'battle'. the biggest battle is fought within... and it's within that you find peace....

May Wisdom be with you all...

Wisdom to Change your Inner world

Buddha was well known for his ability to respond to evil with good. And there was a man that knew about this reputation and he traveled miles and miles to test Buddha.

When he got in Buddha’s presence he verbally abused him, he insulted and offended him. Buddha was unmoved.
He simply turned to the man and said: ‘ May I ask you a question?’

The man agreed and said: ‘ Well what?’

Buddha: ‘ When someone offers you a gift and you decline to accept it, to whom then does it belong?’

Man: ‘ Well then it belongs to the person who offered it.’

Buddha smiled: ‘That is correct.’

Buddha: So if I decline to accept your abuse, does it not then still belong to you?

The man was speechless and left.

When we begin to change our inner world, the experiences of the outer world will also change and reflect this.

In a modern world full of materialism, worry, greed, stress, and an array of sufferings, meditation can bring positive relief and purification to all unhealthy matters that a human being may experience.

When a person truly begins to understand how they are affecting and creating there own problems, they quickly want to change.  If they practice the correct methods of self-awareness then radical progress in a persons emotional, spiritual and physical development can be made in a very short time.

The sub-conscious and conscious cycles can gradually be changed, through practice, effort and good conduct, resulting in a healthier, happier and more wholesome life.

Tomorrow is not real. It is an illusion

“A Japanese warrior was captured by his enemies and thrown into prison. That night he was unable to sleep because he feared that the next day he would be interrogated, tortured, and executed. Then the words of his Zen master came to him,
“Tomorrow is not real. It is an illusion. The only reality is now.”
Heeding these words, the warrior became peaceful and fell asleep. “

"Don't talk if you can't improve on silence"- Be mindful in speech

Generally we operate on autopilot, unaware of moment to moment experience
We are capable of developing sustained attention
Development of ability is gradual, progressive and requires practice
Awareness makes life richer and more vivid and replaces unconscious reactiveness
Gives rise to veridicality (reality) of perception
Awareness enhances perception, effective action and control

Letting go: Cultivate Compassion in Your Life

“Today I am fortunate to have woken up, I am alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others, I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”  -Dalai Lama

Develop empathy for your fellow human beings

Try this practice:
Imagine that a loved one is suffering. Something terrible has happened to him or her. Now try to imagine the pain they are going through. Imagine the suffering in as much detail as possible. After doing this practice for a couple of weeks, you should try moving on to imagining the suffering of others you know, not just those who are close to you.

Contemplate on the following

Instead of recognizing the differences between yourself and others, try to recognize what you have in common. At the root of it all, we are all human beings. We need food, and shelter, and love. We crave attention, and recognition, and affection, and above all, happiness.

Practice uttering the following with yourself

“Just like me, this person is seeking happiness in his/her life.”
“Just like me, this person is trying to avoid suffering in his/her life.”
“Just like me, this person has known sadness, loneliness and despair.”
“Just like me, this person is seeking to fill his/her needs.”
“Just like me, this person is learning about life.”
