Don't waste it

* The Lord Buddha has said to lay people to keep 1/4 of their wealth for their everyday needs (including giving and good deeds), 2/4 for one's prosperity, work needs, investments and businesses and 1/4 saved for emergencies. With this in mind, giving the most within one's means is very good.

Everybody's Free, Everybody's Free To Feel Good!

Wear Sunscreen is the common name of an essay, (actually called "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young") written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.

The most popular and well-known form of the essay is the successful music single released in 1999, accredited to Baz Luhrmann.


Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '97
"WEAR SUNSCREEN!"

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, "sunscreen" would be it.

The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists,
whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.
I will dispense this advice NOW!
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth.

Oh, never mind.

You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded.

But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. 
You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future. 
Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.

The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind,
The kind that blindside you at 4 pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing every day that scares you.
Sing
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts.
Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.
The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember compliments you receive.
Forget the insults.
If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters.
Throw away your old bank statements.Stretch

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives.
Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees.
You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll divorce at 40.

Maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.

Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much,
or berate yourself either. 
Your choices are half chance.
So are everybody else's.
Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can.
Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it.
It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.
Dance
Even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do not read beauty magazines.
They will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents.
You never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings.
They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,
but with a precious few you should hold on.

Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get,
the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.

Live in "New York City" once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in "Northern California" once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel

Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise.
Politicians will philander.
You, too, will get old.

And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young,
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. 
Maybe you have a trust fund.
Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse.
But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy,
but be patient with those who supply it. 
Advice is a form of nostalgia.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal,
wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.

Karma

"You are born poor in this life on account of your past evil karma. He is born rich on account of his good Karma. So, be satisfied with your humble lot; but do good to be rich in your next life. You are being oppressed now because of your past evil Karma. There is your destiny. Be humble and bear your sufferings patiently. Do good now. You can be certain of a better and happier life after death."


The Samyutta Nikaya states:
"According to the seed that’s sown,
So is the fruit you reap there from,
Doer of good will gather good,
Doer of evil, evil reaps,
Down is the seed and thou shalt taste
The fruit thereof."

Make stuff happen

 

Interesting idea made my mind rethink that all the roads  that had ponder was once Paths are made by walking. Early days these were merely forests.  This made me realized How often we spend our time waiting for the opportune moment to appear right before us.  Have they not walked down that path , have they waited. Then we wouldn’t be having these roads.

A Path without End - The Levels of Thought

One of the first goals of meditation is to still and calm random thoughts. In order to achieve this, it is helpful to identify four different levels of Thinking.

 

  1. Negative thought  - Considered lowest level , it includes feelings of anger, fear sadness, regret and unease
  2. Wasteful thought -  When we waste our time worrying about things that might not happen or about things outside of our control
  3. Necessary thought – Such as “I must not forget to pay electricity bill” or I must remember to send a birthday card
  4. Positive thought – The Highest level, which encourage peace, harmony, creativity, love and happiness.

In meditation we can free our minds from negative and wasteful thoughts and elevate them to the highest level.

Life is a journey, not a Destination

Many of us think that life is about getting somewhere, that there are so many things to accomplish, many things to gain. These accomplishments and gains are temporary and materialistic that more often we tend to live in dreams about getting what we want in the future or what happened in the past.

Thereby we tend to forget the present moment of life, that's happening right now. There's even saying by John Lennon “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”

Experience the deep stillness and peace that exist in your mind when there is no strong resistance to your thoughts and memories.

Where there is beauty, there is ugliness.

When something is right, 
Something else is wrong. 
Knowledge and ignorance
Depend on each other. 
It has been like this since the beginning. 
How could it be otherwise now? 
Wanting to chuck out one
And hold onto the other
Makes for a ridiculous comedy. 
You must still deal with everything
Ever-changing, 
Even when you say it’s wonderful.

Lessons on Life
 

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge
things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of  promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons  are up.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.


Moral:

Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.
Don't  judge life by one difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches
and better times are sure to come some time or later.
